Levi N. Pace

Welcome to my webpage!  I am a graduate student at the University of Utah.  This semester I am teaching US Economic History, Economics 1740 Section 003 on Thursdays, 6:00 to 8:30 in Marriott Library room 1150.

I received my B.A. in history from Alice Lloyd College, a small liberal arts college in Eastern Kentucky, and my masters in business administration (MBA) from the University of Kentucky.  I am currently completing research for my Ph.D. in economics from the University of Utah.

In Utah over the past decade, about one in fifty households declares bankruptcy each year, and that is just the tip of the iceberg as far as people who are trying to make ends meet and falling behind on loan payments.  My dissertation is on how major bankruptcy reform in 2005 has affected people in Utah who sought bankruptcy relief from their debts.  I am working with Professor David Kiefer, my advisor.  Past research that has interested me is also policy related: income tax reform and severance tax policy.

I am from Eastern Kentucky in the Appalachia Mountains where I grew up in a large family in a small college town that offered affordable education to local students.  After two years of volunteer missionary service in Santiago, Chile, I moved to Utah to work on my PhD.  I enjoy running, basketball, and the outdoors.  I also love piano, choirs, and reading.  My career plans include teaching at the college level, and perhaps employment with an interesting company or an inspiring nonprofit.

My office is room 1 in the basement of BUC, which is among the business buildings, east of the architecture building, southeast of Marriott Library.  My office hours at BUC 1 for the Fall 2009 semester are Wednesdays from 1:00 to 2:00, but I am also often available by appointment.  You can always reach me by email at levipace@hotmail.com.  Visit www.econ.utah.edu/~lpace to see my teaching history, syllabuses, and more.  Current registered students can keep in touch via their course WebCT site at www.webct.utah.edu.
