Matt Kuo-Liang Chang

Hi, Welcome to my page!!!

I am currently finishing my Ph.D. dissertation. I plan to start my new life with my wife Brandy at the California State University-Chico this August. I am very excited about it.

My main interests of research are in the field of the natural resource/environmental economics and the labor economics.

My dissertation is a study of the yellowfin tuna fishery in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean region. If you are interested in my dissertation, please check the 2006 WEA paper I presented in 2006. I think this field of study is very interesting. I hope you like it, too.

My life in this country is a wonderful journey. For these years I studies at the University of Utah, I worked as a RA for 2 and 1/2 years in the Family and Consumers Studies department, where I learned a lot about the gender issues in the United States. I also advanced my SAS programming skill a lot through this job (thank you very much, Dr. Fan. You are wonderful!!). This RA job also helped me to generate my first publication. The title of the article is “Impending Widowhood and Health Care Spending”. Please go to website: www.elsevier.com/locate/ssresearch and check it out. It is a very interesting article.

I’ve also taught many classes for the past 8 years. I really enjoy being a teacher. If you are interested in what I taught in the past years, please check out my vita. Currently, I am teaching a class titled “current economics problems” at the U. I also teach two classes at Westminster college (it is a great liberal art school in Salt Lake City, I love it very much!! You feel like you are at home when you are walking on the campus. Please check the website: www.westminstercollege.edu for more information about this school).  If you are interested in my teaching philosophy, please take some time to take a look. I’ve been trying my best to be a good teacher. I believe every student is unique and deserves my attention. I personally believe that I am not a brilliant student. I do not learn things very quick. I cannot go this far in my academic career without those wonderful teachers who helped me and walked me though all these years. I will never forget that. And I am doing my best to become someone else’s inspiration in the future (I hope).

Whenever I am not doing research or teaching, I like to go swimming and do some work out. I also like to read books (on different subjects, but mostly history and environmental issues). I also watch movies, especially foreign films. My all time favorite movies are: Red (by Krzysztof Kieslowski), The Age of Innocence (by Martin Scorsese), and The Wild Reeds (by André Téchiné, my favorite director).
