Welcome to my webpage! I am a graduate student at the University of Utah. Lately I have been teaching U.S. Economic History and Macroeconomics.
I received my B.A. in history from Alice Lloyd College, a small liberal arts college in Eastern Kentucky, and my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Kentucky. I am currently completing research for my Ph.D. in economics from the University of Utah.
In Utah over the past decade, about one in fifty households declares bankruptcy each year, and that is just the tip of the iceberg of people who are trying to make ends meet and falling behind on loan payments. My dissertation is on how major bankruptcy reform in 2005 has affected people in Utah who have sought bankruptcy relief from their debts. Other research interests are state income tax reform, tax incidence analysis, the severance tax in Utah and economic development in Latin America.
I am from Eastern Kentucky in the Appalachian Mountains where I grew up in a large family in a small college town that offered affordable education to local students. After two years of volunteer missionary service in Santiago, Chile, I moved to Utah to work on my PhD. My career plans include teaching at the college level, and perhaps doing economic research for the government or working for a nonprofit organization.
Please contact me if you need anything. My office is #4 in the Economics Department on the top floor of OSH, Rm. 343. Email is often the best way to reach me. Current registered students can keep in touch via their course WebCT site at webct.utah.edu.
