Research

On this page, I briefly summarize my research interests, and link these to my publications. You can find as well information on my current work on this page.

Teaching

When I teach, I emphasize controversy, and connect topics to current events and debates. The challenge for the student is to make up her own mind!

Short Bio

In 2004, I completed my MA in Economics at the New School for Social Research (NSSR) in New York, NY. After entering the PhD program at NSSR, I worked as a research assistant at the NSSR-affiliated Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis (SCEPA) in the area of Globalization and Trade with Will Milberg and Lance Taylor. From 2007 to 2008, I worked with Jomo Kwame Sundaram (Jomo KS), Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development in the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA), in his position as research coordinator of the Inter-governmental Group of Twenty Four (G-24). In 2008, I graduated from NSSR, and moved to Denver to take a tenure-track position at the University of Denver. In 2009, I accepted a new tenure-track position in the Department of Economics at the University of Utah here in the Salt Lake City. In the past, I have consulted for Oxfam, UK, together with Lance Taylor of the New School for Social Research on the possibly detrimental impact of further trade liberalization within the "Doha" process on sub-Saharan Africa; consulted for UNDP's Regional Bureau for the Arab States (UNDP-RBAS) together with Codrina Rada (Economics, U. of Utah) on structure and performance of the economies of the Arab States; and consulted for ILO's Institute for International Studies (IILS) on employment prospects in the wake of the global crisis.
